... Okay, these things are honestly incredible. Fans of Marshmallow Peeps -- the stretchy yellow chicks that were formerly an Easter-only affair -- have enjoyed the series' expansion over the past few years. For the spooky season, we've already seen "ghost" and "pumpkin" Peeps, but it wasn't until this afternoon that I experienced the holiest of the holy -- "Marshmallow Cocoa Bats" aren't just season-appropriate Peeps, they're by and large the ultimate Peeps. Combining a new flavor with a size that will MAKE YOU EXPLODE, these bats should quickly rise to that upper echelon of the Halloween candy aisle, joining decades-spanning luminaries as another prime sweet that can never, ever, never ever go away. These things deserve all the hype they can get. ...

The Ultimate Halloween Bubble Light!

by -RoG- on 09/11/2007, 3:49 am

So today I want to talk to you a little bit about bubble lights. Why? Because I recently went to one of my favorite shops in L.A., La Luz de Jesus, which has some of the greatest books, art and novelty items you'll find anywhere in the country. While walking through the store, I noticed what can only be described as the Ultimate Halloween Bubble Light plugged into one of the walls. I immediately asked the cashier if they sold them, and sure enough, they did. Now, I like a good set of vintage Christmas tree bubble lights as much as the next guy, but this Halloween one truly takes the cake. Feast your eyes on this beauty:
...

It absolutely infuriates me that I can't find a larger picture of the cute little Bat Wings pumpkin!
The top is orange with dark green underneath, and it is actually an ornamental but edible gourd.
Click pic if you wanna visit the only place I could find it. They have other cool pumpkins and ornamentals.

Edited to add:
Dear MSiegel has come to the rescue once again - he finds the unfindable!

Click pics to visit the two places he found it.
The second place he found says it's an acorn squash, and the adorable things in their pic do indeed look like 'em.
T'others look nowt like acorn squash. Hmmm.

Edited once more to add:
Dear Anneliese has also ridden to the rescue once again!

This pic is a link too, also.

Edited and bumped again to add:

Dear Ar0cketman is sendin' me goodies too!
He and Anneliese are both weird pumpkin/squash gourd afficianados, and sweeter 'n punkin pie, so I shouldn't be surprised. :)
Oh, and the above pic is also a link.

Halloween socks are important.

I wore these on the 30th. :)

They're very important.

That one pair in the above post is in my own collection - most of these pics are from ebay and Spirit Halloweeen Dot Com.

I found so many good Halloween socks, and saw there were at least as many more good uns on teh Intart00bz; I just had to quit or I'd've been up until 4 PM the next day photobucket'g and postin' 'em!

Update 3 Nov: It gives Your Humble Narrator great pleasure to inform you she now possesses these and.....

these!

'Course, anyone who knows anything buys Hallowe'en socks at their local drug store/s (esp the big chains) on the Day of the Dead, and spends maybe a buck a pair. Hallowe'en specialty joints and costume shops generally have big sales too, also. The wise also buy Hallowe'en t-shirts at Target when they're on sale cheap; they always have excellent ones.

That's the scariest thing I've found this year.
/me shudders

... Cllr Sonja Wilson added she thought the festival was against the teachings of the Bible.

She said: "We feel strongly about the potential dangers of letting youngsters become involved in it.

"We never encouraged our own children to join any Halloween activities because it's unhealthy.

"The Bible says not to believe in other idols and Halloween is all about promoting Satan.

"There is a risk that it could lead to other things like an interest in the occult and witchcraft – it's like encouraging young people to drink beer."

The pumpkin competition task fell to the deputy mayor, Councillor Clive Stringer, who said: "As far as I'm concerned it's just a bit of fun for the kids.

"I was brought up as a Christian but I don't see anything wrong with children dressing up as witches and wizards and making faces out of pumpkins."
Christian Broadcasting Network Warns Against 'Demonic' Halloween Candy

UPDATE: CBN has removed the blog. The original text is available here.
-----
Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network posted a blog by Kimberly Daniels recently that warns Christians to forgo celebrating Halloween because of its evilness. Daniels specifically calls out candy as a source of soul-molestation:

"During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. For example, most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches."

Obviously, we shouldn't be buying Halloween candy, but what about getting it by trick-or-treating?

"Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference."

Darn.

We wholeheartedly agree with Daniels and have put together a handy guide of outrageously demonic candy to stay away from this (and every) season. ...

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Angels' Night volunteers are patrolling the streets of Detroit to make sure the streets stay safe.

The City of Detroit will enforce a strict curfew during the Angels' Night period.

Parents are being asked to make sure their children obey the curfew.

In addition to the normal curfew, an emergency ordinance will be in effect that makes it unlawful for children under the age of 18 to be on any public street, sidewalk, alley, park, playground, vacant lot or any other unsupervised outdoor public place, or in any arcade, billiard or pool hall, bowling alley, restaurant, theatre, or place of amusement or entertainment from Friday evening, October 30, 2009, at 6 p.m., through Saturday morning, October 31, 2009 at 6 a.m.

Any unaccompanied child found violating the curfew will be detained and could be fined unless they are traveling to or from work or school. The youth must be able to provide proof of employment or enrollment.

The curfew periods are as follows:

Emergency curfew hours for Friday, October 30:

Minors 18 years of age and younger: Curfew begins at 6 p.m. on Friday and ends at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday

Normal curfew hours for Saturday, October 31:

Minors age 15 and younger: Curfew begins at 10 p.m. on Saturday and ends at 6 a.m. on Sunday.

Thousands fan out for Angels' Night in Detroit
Mark Hicks / The Detroit News

Detroit -- Hit by blocks of abandoned homes and foreclosures, Detroit officials are hoping to avert "a perfect storm" when volunteers and officials take to the streets for the three-night Angels' Night campaign to combat arsons.

More than 30,000 people fanned out Thursday for the first night of the volunteer campaign. Through Saturday, volunteers will be patrolling neighborhoods with cars and flashlights to help prevent arsons on what once were considered some of the city's most dangerous nights for fires. ...
